Conducting Research in South Dakota?

Important note to researchers in South Dakota:
You are required to obtain a Scientific Collector's Permit from South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) depending on what species you are studying before beginning any field work. Additionally there are several GFP scientific and regulatory protocols that must be followed.

South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks recently (2025) contracted South Dakota State University experts to update South Dakota's Bat Management Plan to provide an overview of species' status, details on the ecological importance of bats, identify key conservation issues, describe primary habitat types, and current research efforts and needs.
